Final Assignment

Sports and Leisure

Introduction:
I interviewed my father, who is 62 years old, about the past of sports and leisure in the UAE. I asked him a couple of questions about how sports were handled 50 years ago in the UAE. What he told me gave me a great understanding about sports especially camel riding.

1.   What kinds of sport were available to the public in the UAE 50 years ago?
There were many he implied; besides camel riding, football, horse riding there was also            swimming. However 50 years ago is a little too much to state what kind of sports were there; our life was very difficult in so many ways at that time.
2.      Have you decided to join any clubs in the UAE?
Yes, I have been in some clubs in the past; one was called Al Nadi Seyahi Club, which was close to Meridian Hotel and Abu Dhabi Mall. It was one of the oldest clubs at that time especially in the 1990’s. I used to go there to have some swimming lessons with your uncles.
3 Is this club still there today?
Not anymore; really they took it down 8 years ago for more projects in the country. I felt bad about it. It had so many memories and I had so many friends I met there.

4.      Did the club afford just swimming or were there a lot of games?
Aw the amount of sports they had was amazing at that time. They had bowling, tennis, which your uncle loved playing, football, basketball, squash, arcade games, billiards and much more. It was the place for kids and grownups to hang around in besides malls.
5.      What happened to the club? Did they move it?
The club was demolished in 2002; it was an old club, which was in a strategic place in the tourist club area close to Meridian hotel and Abu Dhabi mall. The reason for it to be removed was clearly unknown but the government had plans for other projects. I heard they might open a new club besides the Meridian but this might be only rumors.

Conclusion:

I had a chance to interview my father who is 62 years old about any clubs that have been a big part of his life. He gave me some honest opinions about, which club he went to and the sport he used to adore which was swimming.

Case Study Reflection

We have been assigned to do an interview with a particular club (a sports club). As a group of four student’s we decided to do about a club that is closer to our houses. Not just that but the club, which is Al Forsan club is a place we all have been too. So in my opinion a group project’s is a bit of a hassle comparing to a single person working as one. The reason for that is the ideas of each individual change and it’s hard to come up with a conclusion. However we have managed our group and came up with a good amount of questions. Our specification of the interview was quite vague as we did not know if the interviewer would accept or would skip the questions we asked. Our concern was not only the question though it was the principle of our interviewer, who was in a hurry. We understood he is busy in different field as a manager, but we could have a better established a better time for interviewing him.in the mean time our group came up with how to work together in the interview. One student asked the questions to the interviewer, one videoed it, one handled the pictures and the other put it all in a video. With compressing the video, editing, music, pictures and making the video clear. The interview however taught us a lot of things besides it was just an assignment. It gave us courage, new path of interest (field of interviewing people) and a way to communicate with someone about a job or a work place he is so familiar with. Groups are not perfect in handling projects or assignments as some of us are new to the field of going out there (The real world or the place business resides) and simply interviewing someone. The case study helped us in many ways though. In the near future this would give us a step up on how interviewers are being shown or portrayed. As a local in the country of the UAE I feel that club’s aren’t that popular among the students, friends and families. It is popular for soccer clubs but not an actual place to hang out in, it is simply once in a month to try out. What the clubs need I think is more publicity, more encouragement to join a club and give us not just the variety of activities but the role of excitement and the explanation of challenges that we might face in a club activity. Club’s I think are made for socializing and relaxing. Some club’s seem to lack in such things. Al Forsan club offer’s a lot but the publicity of the club is not too popular. Our interviewer gave us an estimate of five hundred people who attend regularly. That is a good number, but it’s lower than a lot of clubs in comparison. This was a great experience of our study case as the interaction with clubs or organizations could enhance our way of thinking and our strong will to do interviews.
